Bienvenue!

Welcome to French at UNBSJ. Saint John has strong historical links with French. On June 24, 1604 Samuel de Champlain named our river after Saint John the Baptist, whose feast is celebrated on that day, making Saint John one of the pioneering cities of "La Francophonie" (the French-speaking world). In keeping with the current emphasis on globalization, the French section of the Department of Humanities and Languages focuses on French language and culture as the gateway to the Francophone communities of Canada and the world beyond.

We offer a French Major or you may choose to combine your Arts, Business or Science degree in a Double Major, a French Minor, a Certificate of Proficiency in French, or a Certificate in Business French. Whichever of our programs you choose to follow, it will open up career options and enhance your marketabilility when looking for a job.
