Professor June Madeley is currently the Student Advisor of the Information and Communication Studies Program. Her PhD dissertation was a study of class, gender and television viewership which was completed at McMaster University in the Department of Sociology. She is interested in the content, production and reception of various communications media and applies a focus on class, gender, ethnicity and racialization to her work. Professor Madeley has an interest in the globalization of communication media and industries and the Canadian scene in this context. Her current research has a focus on gender and the audiences of comic books and manga (Japanese comic books). Dr. Madeley is also currently working on research into the structure, organization and history of Worldcon (The World Science Fiction Convention).
