Dr. Burns received her doctorate from Simon Fraser University. Her current research includes an examination of the modern and postmodern art forms. One project examines the variation in representations of the female body by men and women painters in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. A second project examines social variations in Canada, the United States, Mexico and Western Europewith reference to the production of art. Ph.D. from the University of Essex. Her research interests centre on
the impact of the gendering process on work organization and work relations.
Her most recent work has focused on home based telework. She has also
been involved as a member of the gender analysis teams on CIDA funded
projects in China, Cuba and Vietnam. She teaches gender relations, the
sociology of work, research methods, statistical analysis, and introduction
to sociology, and is actively involved in the Gender Studies programme. email: chalmers@unbsj.ca Dr. Chris Doran Professor Dr. Doran received his doctorate from the University of Calgary. Specializing in textual analysis, socio-legal studies and historical sociology. Current research: Examining questions of Ideology and Recursion in the work of Stuart Hall. Political Thought at York University. His main area of research is: why it is only in Europe that a culture is to be found in "a continuous succession and alternation of free spiritual movements." Current topics of interest: the origins of Western Civilization, the ancient Greek sources of civic freedom and rationality, the Christian theology of the unity of mankind, the meanings of the Renaissance, the Reformation and the Jesuits, the Scientific Revolution, the Enlightenment and the French Revolution.
Dr. Joe Galbo Associate Professor Dr. Galbo received his doctoral degree from York University. His interests include media studies, politics and culture, popular culture, Canadian culture, Critical Theory, cultural studies, and McLuhan studies. Arts in Geography from Mount Allison University, an MA in Geography
from Memorial University of Newfoundland, and a PhD in Geography from
The University of British Columbia. His research interests include:
the historical geography of Atlantic Canada, agricultural development
in Canada, the history of transportation in the Maritimes, and urban
and regional planning issues. He teaches Regional Geography of Canada.
