Kingston Peninsula Community Profile
Mr. Glendon Baxter, Kingston Peninsula Heritage Inc.
The purpose of this project is to perform and compile a comprehensive analysis of the social, historical, economic and geographical aspects and influences of the Kingston Peninsula.
This project will include a review of:
- Social Statistics of the Peninsula
- Land use practices - changes from traditional farming/lumbering to tourism/housing
- Transportation issues (an examination of the ferry system)
- Proposed changes in rural governance
- Decling population and the community effects regarding education and religous facilities, fire, ambulance and police services, etc.
Some planned outcomes for this project are the production of a tourist pamphlet for the peninsula, as well as the development of a comprehensive community profile. Additionally, the information gathered for this project will hopefully be used in the production of a longer brochure about the Peninsula which will complement a ‘Guide to Peninsula Architecture’ (another project undertaken by this CURA). The construction of an online community profile for the peninsula is also a long-term goal of this study.
