Q. What are the requirements to make the Dean's List?
A. Decisions for full-time and part-time students are based on assessment grade point averages which are calculated in May of each year provided at least 24 credit hours have been attempted since the last assessment grade point average was recorded.

Q. How do I apply for scholarship consideration?
A. Students applying to UNB directly from high school should complete the scholarship application form, which is attached to the admission application, or you can apply online. Current UNB students, enrolled an undergraduate degree program, must apply each year between January 15th and April 15th, for scholarship support for the next year. The application form is found on the UNB website, through My UNB e-Services.

Q. How do I know which scholarship to apply for?
A. UNB has over 250 scholarships available to eligible high school students and 200 scholarships available to continuing UNB students on both campuses but there is only one scholarship application form mentioned above covers all these scholarships. For high school entrants, there are three scholarships that require a special application: H. Harrison McCain Bursaries, University of New Brunswick Saint John Primrose Scholarship and Blake-Kirkpatrick Scholarships

Q. Who is considered a mature student?
A. In order to be considered as a mature student you have to be 21 years or older at the beginning of the term you are applying for and you have not attended any other post-secondary institutions (i.e. university/Community College) since you left high school.

Q. How do I reach somebody on Campus?
A. You can search the UNB online directory from the UNB homepage.

Q. How do I make a financial inquiry i.e. pay my fees, how much is tuition?
A. You can contact Financial Services at 506-648-5543 or visit their website.

Q. Can I fax required documents for my Admissions file i.e. high school transcript, university transcript?
A.
Yes, required documents can be faxed to the Admission's Office but transcripts are only considered official if they are faxed directly from the school. The fax number for the Admission's Office (UNBSJ) is 506-648-5691.

Q. Where can I pick up a University calendar?
A. Calendars/applications are available at the front counter of the Registrar's Office and on-line at http://www.unb.ca/calendar/undergraduate/

Q. What is the Admission Application deadline?
A. The deadline for September intake is March 31st but if high school students want to be considered for scholarships applications should be submitted by February 15th.

Q. How can I apply to UNB?
A. You can apply on-line (you will need Visa, Mastercard or American Express) or you can request an application package from the Admission's Office via telephone, e-mail or in person.

Q. How much is the application processing fee?
A. All applications must be accompanied by a $45.00 non-refundable fee.

Q. How long does it take to make a decision on my application?
A. Before a decision can be made on a potential student's application it is required that all documents (high school transcript, university transcripts, supplementary forms) be submitted. Once all the required documentation is received at the Admission's Office then an application can be fully processed and a decision sent out.

Q. What is considered an official transcript?
A. An official transcript is sent directly from an educational institution.

Q. What do I need to present to pick up official documentation?
A. University regulations address Confidentiality, Security and Release of Student Academic Records.    To comply, we require students, when picking-up documentation at the UNBSJ Registrar's Office, be prepared to show an official photo ID [ex - UNB student ID card, valid driver's license, etc.].

Q. Where is the Registrar's Office located?
A. The Saint John Registrar's Office is located in Oland Hall, Room 141 (Reception).

Q. What are the business hours for the Registrar's Office?
A. Winter Hours (Labour Day until Victoria Day): Telephone and counter inquiries-9:00a.m until 4:30p.m Monday to Friday.
Summer Hours: Telephone and counter inquiries-9:00a.m until 4:00p.m Monday to Friday.

Q. What is the Student Opinion Survey?

A. The Student Opinion Survey is a questionnaire completed by students near the end of a course to evaluate the quality of the course and the instruction.   In its current form, the Survey consists of 21 questions.   The results are used by course instructors to improve the quality of the course and by the university administration to make decisions about instructor development, promotion, and tenure.

Q. Where do I go to get an ID card?
A.Photo ID cards for full and part-time students are produced at the Ward Chipman Library.   Please check with the Library for information on session dates and times.

Q. Where do I get my ID validated?
A. ID cards are validated at the Ward Chipman Library.   Tuition payment is required before an ID card will be validated.

Q. What is the difference between part time and full time?
A. For the purposes of tuition fees and billing, a student is considered Full-time when they are registered in 4 or more Term courses.

Q. How do I activate my IT services and set my pin?
A. From the UNB homepage click on "my UNB e-Services", and click on "activate your IT services", enter your personal information, and set your challenge question.

Q. How do I register to AUDIT a course?
A. You require the instructor's permission (in writing) to audit a course. The cost to audit as a part time student is half the cost of a credit course. Full time students taking four or more courses plus an audit would see no change in fees.

Q. How do I get permission to take a course toward my degree at another university?
A.
"Off Campus Study" forms are available at the Registrar's Office. Your faculty, as well as the Registrar must approve the course/courses you wish to take.

Q. How do I add or drop a full year course online?
A. You must register or drop both terms at the same time. For example, if you were adding ARTS 1000 you would register for the course for both fall and winter terms. The same would apply when dropping.   [Note - a full year course is one that ends in '0'.]

Q. How do I order a transcript?
A. Transcripts can be ordered online through UNB Fredericton or in person at the Registrar's Office. The cost is $5.00 for the first copy, $3.00 for each additional copy. Turn around time is normally two business days. Same day service is available at a cost of $10.00. Fax Service is also available, with the additional cost of faxing at $5.00 local, $10.00 the rest of Canada, and $15.00 outside of Canada.

Q. Where do I get a confirmation of enrolment letter?
A. Confirmation letters are available at the Registrar's Office. If they are for non-educational purposes, there is a fee of $15.00. Due to the volume of letters requested, faxing is not available.

Q. What is my status if I'm Required to Withdraw [RTW]?
A. In May of each year, students who have taken 24 credit hours of study have their cumulative grade point average [CGPA] calculated.   If a student was previously placed on Academic Probation at this calculation, and the student has not improved his/her CGPA, a student can be Required to Withdraw for academic performance considered to be outside good academic standing.   If this is the case, a student must spend some time (at least 12 months) away from university before they can re-apply for possible re-admission.

A. The Timetable and Building Codes are available on the UNB Course Timetable, click on the "Timetable and Building Codes" link.

Q. What is considered a conflict in my exam schedule?
A. Two exams in the same time slot or three consecutive exams within a twenty-four hour period are considered a conflict. In the case of three consecutive exams, normally the middle exam is deferred. Applications for deferral are available at the Registrar's Office.

Q. How do I apply to transfer Faculties/Campus?
A. You must complete a transfer request form which is available online or at the Registrar's Office.

Q. When do final grades show on my transcript?
A. Grades are suppressed from viewing during the examination period until after the last exam is written.
