Student Recruitment & Admissions activity conducted by the Office of the Registrar is mandated to:
- Represent all undergraduate programs offered by UNB Saint John.
- Recruit students to apply to programs offered by UNB Saint John.
- Through recruitment activity, geographically diversify our student population.
- Recruit students from high school, the community and other post-secondary educational backgrounds as appropriate.
Our Vision
Student Recruitment & Admissions activity is coordinated with all levels of UNB Saint John's marketing and communications strategies, the President's vision, the Vice-President's agenda, and with the goals of each of the faculties. To that end, all recruitment activity is selected to promote and fulfill these goals.

Dean of Arts, Dr. Robert MacKinnon, speaks with students in a lecture theatre.
Our Approach
All activity undertaken will be student centred, designed to address the specific interests and concerns of the prospective student market.
Basic ethical standards will be adhered to in the promotion of UNB Saint John, relations with competing institutions and advice and information communicated to prospective students and youth influencers.
Wherever possible, response times to inquiries and requests will be conducted within one day, or as soon as reasonably possible.
The primary active role of recruitment staff is to assist prospective students to get to know UNB Saint John.
Activities
A variety of activities are conducted each year to generate inquiries from prospective students. Recruitment fairs, such as the Atlantic post-secondary fairs (AARAO fairs), independent visits to schools, and presentations to community groups who work with youth. Trade and Technology fairs are interactive career oriented fairs in which faculty groups participate.
Once collected as an inquiry (full name and mailing address), the information is carried through a communications process specific to that student's interests to the point of application. An average communications track might look like this: Point of inquiry, inquiry response mail out, special event invitation.
When the prospective student applies to UNB Saint John, s/he will be fostered through the next process by admissions personnnel in the Office of the Registrar. Further contact with the student through recruitment is not planned but may occur in regards to campus visits, or questions about who to contact, etc.
How Can You Help?
Faculty, staff and current students are crucial to the success of our recruitment efforts. Literally, they are the experience we are actively promoting to prospective students. There are lots of ways to get involved:
- Volunteer to meet visiting students by having them sit in on your class, touring them through labs, or meeting with them to discuss their interests.
- Volunteer to attend a fair or independent visit where you can discuss your special area of knowledge.
- Take the opportunity to visit a public school science fair or talk to a class about your special area of knowledge.
- Arrange open house opportunities or volunteer with one of the current events for prospective students to visit campus and experience UNB Saint John.
- Take the time to enhance the experience of our current students, who are our most important recruitment tool.
Special Events
If you're having a special event that may be of interest to prospective Canadian students, we can offer you:
- Advising regarding timelines, level of contact, awareness, target markets, and organizational details that may relate to the prospective student market.
- Specialized promotions/invitations to select target markets.
- Mail outs to select prospective student markets, including assembly and mailing costs.

Materials
A number of materials are produced for the specific purpose of recruiting Canadian undergraduate students to UNB Saint John. These materials are produced in partnership with faculties and departments but are usually at the cost of the Office of the Registrar.
Materials will be supplied free of charge for any Canadian undergraduate recruitment activity, as long supplies can accommodate it. All such activities should be planned in advance and coordinated with recruitment personnel. Materials will not be supplied for international recruitment purposes without the express written permission of the International Recruitment Centre.
Requests for recruitment pieces should be submitted to Lisa Chouinard at 648-5933, lisa@unbsj.ca with information pertaining to which piece, quantity, purpose and date required.
