Normally courses offered will be approved by the appropriate Faculty Councils and Academic Senate. A Registrar’s Warrant is appropriate if the delivery of the course falls into one of the following categories:
1- There is a requirement to offer the course prior to securing these approvals.
2- There is a requirement for a one time offering of the course.
A Registrar’s Warrant is secured via written request to the Registrar and the Dean of the Faculty in which the course is being offered.
The request will normally require the following information: the title of the course, a calendar description of the course, a more detailed course outline, the instructor for the course, proposed course level, course prerequisite information and information on the rationale for the request. A point of contact person for course development should also be identified.
When the intention is to have the course passed through the normal curriculum process and added to the University Calendar, the request should include an outline of what stages have been passed and a tentative schedule for completion of the curriculum review. The department should also suggest a course number to be assigned.
One-time offerings will be assigned a ‘Special Topics’ course code where available.
A standard Registrar’s Warrant Request Form is under development and will be posted in the near future.
