The UNB Saint John Registrar's Office allocates classrooms for scheduled courses, day and evening Monday through Thursday and up to 4:30 p.m. on Friday, throughout the year (on a first come/first served basis, with due consideration to the need for digital classroom equipment and course enrolment). All classroom bookings on Friday evening and the weekend fall under the jurisdiction of Residence and Conference Services (conf@unbsj.ca, 648-5909). While the Registrar's Office reserves classrooms throughout the week for University use, Residence and Conference Services addresses the bookings for external parties. If a room is being used for a university function, no fees are charged.
If a room is not being used for a university function, or if admission is charged to the general public for the function, Residence and Conference Services work in conjunction with the Registrar's Office. Any fee charged is based upon the room size and time of day.
Requests for a room, outside of the regular timetabling process, should be directed to sjreg@unbsj.ca, 506-648-5670.
Requests for a room by external organizations/individuals should be directed to conf@unbsj.ca, 506-648-5909.
Types of Classrooms
Smart Classrooms: These are classrooms which are equipped with full service computer and AV services. Each classroom contains a data projector connected to a podium in which there is a computer (with DVD player) and VCR. The podium also has ports to connect a laptop computer to the data projector and campus network. While more smart classrooms are planned for the future, we currently have 14 on the Saint John campus.
Light Classrooms: These are classrooms which have a data projector and access ports for instructor-supplied A/V equipment (VCR, DVD or laptop). The instructor's laptop can be connected to the data projector and campus network.
Regular Classrooms: These are classrooms in which there is no built-in data projection device. Howver, these classrooms have at least one access point to the campus network. The instructor must supply their own computer, data projector and network cables in these facilities.
All classrooms contain an overhead transparency projector and pull-down screen.
When advancing classroom selection requests for each term, instructors are asked to please advance request(s) only for the type of classroom most applicable to their course offering. In this way, those with course offerings requiring smart or light classrooms can be accommodated more appropriately and efficiently.
And Coming in the future ...
UNB Saint John is participating in the bi-campus implementation of an Enterprise Room Booking system, Infosilem's TPHi Event & Event Web Software. This room reservation software is designed to reserve physical space for events/courses, ranging from multiple meeting times to one-time bookings. The project's goal is to improve efficiency, providing easy management of reservations necessary for classroom, meeting or event scheduling. As the project progresses, identification of classroom types (smart and light) will be posted for reference and planning purposes.
