Application Process
UNB Students intending to apply for entry
into the Bachelor of Health Sciences program should:
Get
informed about the differences between each
of the professional streams by attending information sessions,
asking questions, touring the program’s facilities,
checking out the links on these pages, etc. Make an
informed choice!
Pick
up application forms from the office of the
Health Sciences Administrator, UNB Saint John, Ganong Hall
230. The application deadline and interviews are normally
scheduled early in the Winter term of each year.
IMPORTANT:
Possession of the first year BSc requirements does not guarantee
admission into the professional portion of the degree. Applicants
will be considered on the basis of their academic record as
well as an interview with a selection committee. Enrolment
is limited and admission is competitive. All applicants must
be proficient in written and oral communication in English.
Admission
Requirements
High school students
must meet admission requirements for UNB’s Bachelor
of Science degree as outlined in UNB Saint John's current
viewbook, "life is an experience, start here". Students
may also contact the Admissions Office, (506) 648-5670; Email
sjreg@unbsj.ca. Once accepted to UNB, they must successfully
complete specific first year courses in Biology, Chemistry,
Physics, Calculus and Psychology.
Current
UNB students who are pursuing, or have successfully
completed, these first year requirements are eligible to apply
for admission into one of the four professional streams.
Normally acceptance
into a professional stream is based on successful completion
of these first year courses at UNB, however, applications
may be considered for those who have successfully completed
the first year courses from an AUCC (Association of Universities
and Colleges of Canada) recognized university.
A Post-Diploma
BHS degree program is available for medical technologists
and therapists who hold a diploma from an accredited program
and are eligible to practice in an area of health sciences
offered through the BHS. Course work requirements are the
same as for the regular BHS degree. Students who have previously
completed a first year of university studies at an AUCC recognized
university may apply for credit toward the BHS degree. Credit
will be granted only for those courses which are essentially
equivalent to the first year BHS courses as listed in the
List of required courses section.
