What is the Bachelor of Health Sciences Program?
The Bachelor of Health Sciences is a four year degree program
that integrates education and practical skills training in
one of four professional streams. These include: Radiography,
Respiratory Therapy, Nuclear
Medicine and Radiation Therapy.
The program is delivered
through institutional partnerships between the University
of New Brunswick Saint John (UNBSJ) and other institution(s)
depending upon the particular professional stream. Collectively,
UNB Saint John has established formal partnerships with New
Brunswick Community College - Saint John, Saint John Regional
Hospital and the Moncton Hospital for the provision of didactic
studies and clinical teaching for this program.
The program was developed to prepare medical technologists
and therapists with the skill mixture to address changing
needs in the Canadian health care system. Grounded in a year
of university course work in the sciences, the two years of
didactic and clinical available at partner institutions results
in skilled practitioners in the field of medical technology.
Through upper level course work in, for example, the social
and health sciences, the practice issues are explored and
contexturalized; and, critical thinking and decision-making
based on evidence is further developed.
