Scholarships & Awards
This page attempts to inform students of scholarships and awards that are available to Saint John students in the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science programme and the Bachelor of Data Analysis programme. Students are encouraged to find additional scholarship & prize information from the UNB Scholarships webpage.
If you have a 3.5 average or better, please remember to apply for all internal scholarship opportunities through the Awards Office by April 15.
Computer Science & Applied Statistics Scholarship
Criteria: Computer Science. value: $500. number: 1. duration: 1 year. conditions: Awarded to a Saint John campus student who has completed the minimum requirements for the first year of the BScCS, BDA, BCS or a concurrent program involving one of these. Selection will be based on academic achievement.

Rolf Riegger Bursary
Criteria: Computer Science, Engineering and Data Analysis. value: $1,000. number: 3. duration: 1 year. conditions: Awarded to students who are Canadian citizens entering first or second year of a Computer Science, Data Analysis, or Engineering degree program on the Saint John campus of UNB. Selections are made primarily on the basis of financial need. Entering students must have a minimum scholarship admission average of 70%, and continuing students must have a minimum assessment year GPA of 2.7.

Jean Crawford Flemming Memorial Scholarship
Criteria: Computer Science value: $500 number: 1 duration: 1 year. conditions: Awarded to a Saint John campus student who has completed the minimum requirements for the first year of the BScCS, BDA, BCS or a concurrent program involving one of these. Selection will be based on academic achievement in Computer Science, Mathematics and Statistics courses. Awarding Agency: The University on the recommendation of the Department of Computer Science and Applied Statistics.

Christopher Cusack Computer Science & Data Analysis Prize
Criteria: A prize of $300 to be awarded annually on the recommendation of the Department of Computer Science and Applied Statistics to a student graduating with a BDA or BScCS degree. In the event of a tie, preference will be given to a student graduating with a BDA degree. The prize is awarded based on performance in DA4993 or CS4993.
Donor: The prize is funded by friends of the late Christopher Cusack BScDA'81.
Jean Crawford Flemming Memorial Prize
Criteria: A prize of $250 to be awarded in the Fall term on the recommendation of the Dean of SASE to a Saint John campus student who has completed the minimum requirements for the first year of the BCS, BScCS or BDA. Student who have completed the minimum requirements for the first year of Arts or Science and have indicated their intention to Major in Mathematics or Statistics will also be considered. Selection will be based on academic achievement.
Donor: The prize is funded by J. Archie Flemming, a former Professor of Mathematics and Statistics at UNB Saint John.
Pauline Graham Data Analysis Prize
Criteria: A $300 prize to be awarded in the Fall term for a student in the BDA or BScCS program who upon completion of at least 30 ch has an outstanding average in the required first level Mathematics, Computer Science and Statistics courses. The award is made on the recommendation of the Dean of SASE.
Donor:The prize has been funded by friends of Pauline Graham, former Professor of Mathematics and Statistics at UNB, Saint John.
Saint John Computer Science Prize
Criteria: A prize of $200 to be awarded annually to a student enrolled in the BScCS or BDA degree programs who has completed at least 60 credit hours of required courses. The prize is awarded during the Fall term on the recommendation of the Department of Computer Science and Applied Statistics. Selection will be based primarily on the student's academic achievement in Computer related and Statistics courses.
Donor: The prize is funded by the members and staff of the Department of CSAS.
OAO Technology Scholarship
Criteria:This scholarship is open to students who are graduates of a New Brunswick high school and are entering their final year in the Bachelor of Computer Science degree program or Bachelor of Science Computer Science programme on either campus. Valued at $4000 for the one year duration, selection will be based on scholastic attainment as well as the demonstration of sound business acumen. Candidates will provide evidence of suitability for work in the IT industry as well as a documented history of work, volunteer activities and/or community involvement. A 250-word essay will be requested of shortlisted candidates. Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by OAO Technology. Apply through the Awards Office in February or March of each year.

Sony Science Scholarship
Criteria:Awarded to a student who is a graduate of a New Brunswick high school and is enrolled in a Computer Science, or Electrical or Computer Engineering degree program. Selection will be based on academic achievement. This scholarship is valued at $1500 a year. Apply through the Awards Office in February or March of each year.
CIPS Undergraduate Scholarship
The Canadian Information Processing Society (CIPS), the voice and champion of the Canadian IT profession, is pleased to announce a new student scholarship.
CIPS is offering a $2500 scholarship to an applicant from a CIPS Accredited University Degree Program (that's us!). The award recognizes students for a combination of academic achievement, involvement in the community and a contribution to the Canadian IT industry.
Eligible recipients of this award include all full time students enrolled in a computer science program who are entering their 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year of study at a Canadian University with an accredited program.
Applications must be signed by an academic instructor of the educational institution and by one member of CIPS. A copy of the application can be accessed at the CIPS Student Scholarship site.
Lucent Global Science Scholars Program
Application Deadline: March 15, 2001
Three top students will be selected to represent Canada among the world's best and brightest science and technology undergraduates in the second competition of the Lucent Global Science Scholars Program. Lucent Global Scholars will receive a $US5000 award. Next July, along with the group of 100 Scholars selected worldwide, they will visit the world=renowned Bell Labs in New Jersey and take in a weekend of sightseeing in New York City. And they will be offered an internship at Lucent Canada in summer 2001. All first year students in computer science, computer engineering, or electrical engineering are eligible to apply. For details and a downloadable application form, please check out the CBIE site (Canadian Bureau for International Education), which is overseeing the competition.
Datatel Scholars Foundation
This scholarship program is available to students who attend a Datatel client univeristy - us! Students apply through the UNB Scholarship Office. Deadline is usually near the end of December.
